Introduction

Back in 1998 Valve World first identified a need amongst manufacturers, suppliers and users/purchasers for more detailed information about the content and implications of the Pressure Equipment Directive (P.E.D.) and CE Marking.

To meet the need for information among its members, Valve World has organised the following information channels:

• Series of articles in Valve World magazine (from 1998 - present);
• Standardisation Symposium, Amsterdam, October 1999;
• CE Marking & European Legislation / PED Seminar , Maastricht, September 2001;
• Special interest box on the website, 2000 - present;
• Content package - All the relevant papers, workshops, presentations, etc, held or published to date to help you come up to speed on the PED.

All of the above information should prove a valuable aid to the interpretation of the requirements of the European Pressure Equipment Directive as it applies to the manufacturers of valves and associated equipment. However, it is not an authoritative interpretation of the Directive and must be read in conjunction with the Directive. Any feedback will be highly appreciated.
